Open Studio From Home: Jordan Nassar
Jordan Nassar’s hand-embroidered works speak to ideas of craft, heritage, and homeland. He creates colorful textiles with a method called tatreez, an ancient Palestinian cross-stitch technique. To make works like A Lost Key, Nassar sends altered tatreez patterns to craftswomen in Palestine. They complete his designs with color schemes of their own choosing, leaving a blank rectangle that Nassar later completes himself with an embroidered landscape. To Nassar, the landscape represents an “imaginary utopian homeland.”

This week, you and an art partner will make your own collaborative composition. See what happens when two artists create together!
