Open Studio From Home: Eva Hesse
To make this sculpture, Eva Hesse dipped two knotted pieces of rope into liquid latex, which is a type of flexible rubber––and is even used for special effects in movies. Hesse’s only instruction about how to install this structure was that it should hang from thirteen points, ultimately leaving the configuration of the points up to those hanging it. As a result, she allowed for the sculpture’s shape to shift every time it is hung!

Together, we will take inspiration from the way Hesse developed rules and a structure for this free-flowing and changeable sculpture. Then we will make our own abstract drawings with a hidden structure!
