This program features artist Thomas J Price in conversation with artists and curators, Allison Glenn, Kiyan Williams, and Hugh Hayden, on the occasion of the exhibition Thomas J Price: Witness, organized by the Studio Museum in Harlem. Inspired by Price’s nine-foot bronze figure, The Distance Within (2021) installed in Harlem’s Marcus Garvey Park, this discussion considers monuments, iconography, and visual politics through a diasporic lens. The exhibition’s curator Legacy Russell moderates.
This program is part of the series Conversations in the Commons organized by the Studio Museum in Harlem, in support of the current exhibition Thomas J Price: Witness. It is co-organized by the Whitney Museum of American Art and The Studio Museum in Harlem.
