Natural Resources and Unnatural Disasters
Puerto Rico’s natural environment and political landscape are fertile terrain for many artists in no existe un mundo poshuracán: Puerto Rican Art in the Wake of Hurricane Maria; their works explore how the archipelago’s ecology and infrastructure are entwined. In this panel moderated by Yarimar Bonilla, Director of the Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College, artists Frances Gallardo, Gabriela Salazar, Sofía Gallisá Muriente, Yiyo Tirado Rivera, Javier Orfón, and Gabriella Torres-Ferrer discuss how they approach Puerto Rico’s rich ecosystem as it survives amid decaying public services.

This conversation is the first in a three-part series featuring artists included in no existe un mundo poshuracan: Puerto Rican Art in the Wake of Hurricane Maria.

Presented in partnership with El Centro: The Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College.

This event is presented in both English and Spanish, and simultaneous interpretation is available in both languages. Interpretation by Babilla Collective.
